Heaven on Earth

Here at Purity International we cannot emphasise enough the supernatural and extraordinary graces experienced whilst travelling to the heavenly oasis known as Medjugorje. Countless individuals from all over the world continue to visit the place where Our Lady continues to guide her children to her son, Our Lord Jesus. The location is well known following the visitations of Our Lady who revealed herself to 6 children in June 1981. Our Lady's call is one of Peace, Love, Faith, Conversion, Prayer, and Fasting. Mother Mary continues to encourage the children of God through her countless messages and appearances.

The Location

Medjugorje (Between the Hills)  is a town in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A tiny farming village lost in a harsh and desolate corner of the former Yugoslavia.

close to the border of Croatia and just 50 miles from the Adriatic Sea.

The History

On the 24th June 1984, an extraordinary event turned a seemingly quiet rural village in Bosnia, into a world phenomena. The date, was even more significant  in the Catholic Church calendar, as it  happened to be the Feast of St John the Baptist.

The event involved 4 young people between the ages of 10-16, who witnessed an apparition where a beautiful young woman could be seen surrounded by a brilliant white light. The woman on another occasion introduced herself as 'the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace.

The Event

Two of the young girls, Ivanka aged 15, and 16 year-old Mirjana whilst  returning home from a walk in the afternoon at about 5 o'clock saw a figure of a woman, bathed in light, floating above the ground.  Two addittional young friends, Ivan and Vicka, joined them. The following day their friends Marija and Jacov came too.

All six began to see the Madonna at the same time every day. Many visitors have also seen strange flashes of light and fire on the mountain. At the outset the apparitions lasted 30 minutes or more, but now are usually three or four minutes duration. They take place at 5.40pm (GMT) every evening.

The Message

The Virgin explained to the children "I have come to tell the world that God exists and that He loves you.

He is the fulness of life, and to enjoy this fullness and obtain peace, you must return to God." Mary presents herself as both a servant and messenger of God.

The message she brings does not convey new teachings, but echoes the Gospels and teachings of the Church. The basic message of Medjugorje is Peace, through commitment to God, Reconciliation, Prayer and Fasting.
